On 15 April 2026, Rosh Pinah Zinc (RPZ) provided over  N$180,000 in equipment grants to 33 local businesses in Rosh Pinah as part of its MSME Business Grant Programme.

The initiative, launched in December 2025, was designed to help local entrepreneurs grow practical, sustainable businesses. Delivered with support from MSE Compete, the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board, DRA and OBIB Training Centre, the programme combines training, mentorship and funding.

40 entrepreneurs took part in a three-day business training and pitching competition at the Rosh Pinah Community Hall. Following an independent evaluation, 33 were awarded grants of between N$3000 and N$8000, based on their business requirements.

Wilbard Namboga, who runs a printing business in the town’s informal settlement, Tutungeni, said the support has made an immediate difference.“Before the grant, I was struggling with my old printer. It could only process one copy at a time, and I had to manually flip each page. Now I have a new HP printer that works efficiently, and I can serve more clients, and my business runs much smoother.”

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Alex Mayrick, RPZ General Manager, said the programme reflects the company’s broader commitment to the town. “We are proud of what these entrepreneurs are achieving. This initiative is about more than business support, it is about building a future for Rosh Pinah that lasts beyond mining. This cohort of businesses are an important part of that future.”

The recipients of the funds span a range of sectors, including printing, catering, manufacturing, tailoring and carpentry. Together, they represent both immediate contributors and the long-term potential for the local economy. Danny Meyer, Director of SME Compete, commented “It takes courage to stand up and present your dream”.

The impact of the initiative extends beyond the 33 beneficiaries, reaching the families and households they support. It will improve livelihoods through increased access to basic needs, education support and potential job creation within the community.

The programme forms part of RPZ’s broader commitment to “Sustainability beyond mining”, recognising the need to build resilient local enterprises that can continue to drive economic activity beyond the life of the mine. By supporting small businesses, RPZ aims to contribute to long-term community development and economic diversification in Rosh Pinah.
