Rosh Pinah Zinc (RPZ) has completed renovation works at the Rosh Pinah State Clinic, strengthening healthcare services for residents of Rosh Pinah.

The renovation project, completed over a three-week period, focused on improving infrastructure and functionality at the clinic to support healthcare workers in delivering quality care to the community.

The work was carried out by local contractor Onalufipa Trading under the supervision of civil engineer Antonio Pedro. The project addressed key maintenance needs within the clinic and staff residences.

Upgrades at the facility included:

  • Replacement of light bulbs and light covers throughout the clinic

  • Installation of new toilet units

  • Replacement of doors and locks

  • Repairs to geysers and drainage pipes

  • Carpentry work at the male nurse’s residence

  • Plumbing repairs at the female nurse’s residence

  • Replacement of the kitchen door at the male nurse’s residence

These improvements were aimed at addressing operational challenges that had begun to affect service delivery at the facility.

Supporting frontline Healthcare Workers

One of the major challenges previously faced by the clinic was insufficient lighting, particularly in the emergency observation room used after hours. In some cases, patients had to be moved between rooms so staff could work under better lighting conditions.

Lighting constraints also affected the testing room, where clear visibility is critical for accurate readings and diagnosis. In addition, limited access to running water in certain areas meant staff had to rely heavily on hand sanitizers instead of routine handwashing.

Nurse in Charge at the clinic, Talishi Loide Nangolo, commented: “The renovations have brought significant improvements to the clinic’s working environment.  The clinic is brighter and more functional, allowing us to focus fully on patient care. We appreciate the support and are very pleased with the results of the project.”Improved Patient Care and Working Conditions

The upgrades have already made a difference to daily operations. Improved lighting now allows healthcare workers to attend to patients without unnecessary movement between rooms during emergencies.

Restored access to running water enables proper handwashing practices, strengthening infection prevention and hygiene standards.

Air conditioning systems have also improved ventilation and comfort for staff, particularly during periods of high temperatures. The ability to warm rooms when necessary is especially important during premature deliveries, as the clinic does not have incubators on site.

Commitment to Community Development

Commenting on the initiative, RPZ’s Corporate Manager, Indira Shilongo said: “As a long-standing member of the Rosh Pinah community, we recognise the important role of the state clinic in providing healthcare services to residents of our community. We are pleased to contribute to improvements that help the clinic’sworkers carry out their vital work in a safer and more productive environment.”

Through initiatives such as this, RPZ continues to support the development of community infrastructure and essential services in Rosh Pinah. Over the years, the mine has helped fund public infrastructure and  public use, contributing to the town’s development and community wellbeing.

These include facilities such as the local public primary school, town halls, swimming pools, a wellness and library centre, as well as a number of sports and recreational facilities. By making these assets available to the community, RPZ has helped create spaces that support education, recreation, and social development for residents.

The renovation of the Rosh Pinah State Clinic forms part of this ongoing commitment to strengthening community services and improving the quality of life for the people of Rosh Pinah.
