At Rosh Pinah Zinc, we believe the mine of tomorrow is built by the learners of today. As part of our commitment to Education and STEM development, we were proud to host 25 Grade 11 and AS learners from our very own Tsau//Khaeb Secondary School for an immersive educational visit on Saturday, 03 October 2026.

The visit formed part of the school's newly established Ambassador Programme, designed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world industry application. It gave learners the chance to see the subjects they study at school brought to life on site, from how ore is discovered, to how it is mined and processed. With final exams around the corner, we wanted to give these young leaders more than just a tour; we wanted to give them a vision for their future.

The day began with a mandatory safety induction, after which the learners split into two groups to explore our state-of-the-art Water Treatment Plant and our Laboratory. Back in the Mining Boardroom, our team delivered three dynamic presentations covering:

• Underground mining

• The engineering behind paste backfill

• How our processing plant turns ore into zinc and lead concentrate

Further presentations highlighted the diverse career paths available in mining, from Commerce and Social Science to Science and Engineering, and the school subjects that lead there.

Fittingly, the day was led by RPZ's young and vibrant team, many of them not far removed from the classroom themselves. Their energy, openness and personal stories made the experience a true showstopper and showed learners first-hand where hard work and the right subject choices can take them.

Principal Mrs Laimi Nanyemba shared that the visit meant a great deal to the school. Coming just ahead of final exams, it arrived at exactly the right time, giving learners fresh motivation and a clearer picture of what their studies can lead to.

The impact of the day was best captured by the learners themselves:

  1. "Today's visit really inspired me a lot. I learned that one should study and do what they love. I personally like working with my hands, and I want to pursue chemical engineering or metallurgy because of that. I was also inspired by my father, who works at the mine as a diesel mechanic. I want to be able to help and contribute to the community, as teamwork yields good results for all of us." — Nyundu Joy

  2. "I've lived here basically all my life. The mine has been an integral part of my life because my parents, who provide for me, work here, so the mine is very important to me. My dad also inspires me a lot to work here. I want to give back to the mine what it has given to me. I am thinking of studying Geology or Engineering. This visit has made my commitment to trying to work here stronger." — Johannes Nekongo

  3. "I'm very grateful for this opportunity to explore the mine, because I have been so close to it my whole life. I left feeling inspired, as I dream of becoming an environmental specialist one day. I wasn't planning on doing it in the mining industry, but now I have the opportunity, as today I got to see what Rosh Pinah Zinc is capable of offering to us." — Emilie Moyo

A heartfelt appreciation to everyone who made this day possible: the Corporate department, Safety, Management team, the Security, the Processing team, our Engineering colleagues, and the Backfill team. Their time and generosity planted ideas that may well shape the mine of tomorrow. To Principal Nanyemba and the educators of Tsau//Khaeb Secondary School, thank you for your partnership, and to the learners, thank you for your eagerness and curiosity.
