From dialogue to delivery: RPZ at the 13th Mining Expo & Conference
Rosh Pinah Zinc was proud to be part of the 13th Mining Expo & Conference, held from 4 to 6 August 2026 at the Windhoek Showgrounds. The Expo brought together government, mining companies, suppliers, investors, service providers and other stakeholders around a shared conversation on the future of Namibia's mining sector.
For us, participating in the Expo was about much more than having a presence on the exhibition floor. It was an opportunity to engage our suppliers, build relationships with potential partners, connect with industry counterparts, exchange knowledge and perspectives, and better understand the opportunities and challenges shaping our sector.
It was also an opportunity to tell the broader RPZ story and demonstrate how our operations contribute to Namibia's economy through employment, local procurement, skills development, community investment and the development of opportunities that extend beyond the mine gate.
This year, we also brought visitors closer to the operation through an immersive virtual reality experience, giving guests the opportunity to virtually step into Rosh Pinah Zinc, explore our mining operation and see how the ore moves through the processing journey. It was a different way of making the mining value chain tangible and helping people understand the people, technology and processes behind the production of zinc.
Chamber of Mines President George Botshiwe highlighted the mining industry's wider contribution to Namibia, pointing to the sector's investment in local goods and services, skills development, internships and opportunities for small and medium-sized businesses. His message was clear: mining's contribution cannot be measured only in production and tax revenues, but also in the opportunities and partnerships created across the country.
Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy Hon. Modestus Amutse reinforced the sector's long-term potential, describing mining as a “sunrise industry, not a sunset industry” for Namibia.
And in her keynote address, Her Excellency President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah challenged the sector to move from conversation to implementation, emphasising mining's role as a key economic enabler and its potential to contribute to Namibia's ambitious employment and development objectives.
These messages resonated strongly with RPZ as we progress with RP2.0, our expansion project, which represents an important investment in the future of the operation and in the economic potential of the ǁKaras Region and Namibia more broadly.
We leave the Mining Expo with new connections, renewed conversations and valuable insights. Most importantly, we leave reminded that the future of mining will not be built by one company or one institution. It will be built through partnership, local participation, knowledge-sharing and a shared commitment to turning opportunities into lasting value for Namibia.
