Rosh Pinah Zinc removes more than one tonne of legacy e-waste

Rosh Pinah Zinc (RPZ) has taken a significant step forward in responsible waste management with the removal of more than one tonne of legacy electronic waste (e-waste) from its scrap yard.

The e-waste had accumulated on site over more than a decade due to limited suitable disposal options in the region. To resolve this, RPZ partnered with Space Dust Industries Pty Ltd, a licensed waste-handling and transportation service provider, to facilitate the collection and responsible management of the material.

The collection was completed on 28 July 2026 and comprised:

  • 57 monitor screens

  • 73 desktop computer units

  • 16 rack-mounted servers

  • 43 network switches

  • 15 laptops

  • 29 keyboards

  • 4 computer mice

  • Miscellaneous electronic waste

The collected material will undergo sorting and dismantling, with recoverable components — such as green printed circuit boards — separated for processing through authorised recycling channels. Non-recoverable materials will be directed to an approved disposal facility in line with applicable waste-management requirements.

Beyond reducing the volume of legacy e-waste at the scrap yard, the initiative provided a proper pathway for the recovery and responsible disposal of electronic materials — an important step given the range of materials e-waste contains and the environmental risks associated with improper disposal.

Following the collection, the team also carried out housekeeping at the scrap yard, consolidating and arranging remaining materials to improve order and management of the area. A disposal/recycling certificate was subsequently issued, confirming the collection and responsible handling of the e-waste.

This initiative forms part of RPZ's ongoing commitment to improving waste management practices, promoting resource recovery, and minimising the environmental impact of waste generated across its operations.
